SALA 2016: Cotton + WOOD

For this years SALA I also, very last minute, decided to register for an exhibition entitled Cotton + WOOD. A continuation of some of my previous artworks, I wanted to explore the technique of crochet and balsa wood further and experiment with various patterns, colour ways  etc in order to work towards producing pieces for markets and online sale and finally get my little design boutique off the ground running. Here are some photos of the night, I will be uploading photos of the individual pieces very soon, so watch this space....

A new direction ::: CERAMICS

Over the past few months I have been taking various ceramics short courses in order to up my skills a bit. I have loved ceramics ever since tip-toeing into the subject area ever so slightly at the end of my graduate project and have wanted to learn more about it. Adelaide has such a large ceramic artist community, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to take that step. My first course was in Surface Texture and Decoration at the Jam Factory, taught by Sofia Nuske and recently I also completed a beginners wheel throwing course at TAFE ARTS; I am also currently completing a semester there too. Here are some pieces that I made whilst on the individual courses....

Tuch Macabre Photoshoot

A whole year later, I finally got around to having a photoshoot for my Tuch Macabre collection, which was presented in a catwalk show at the Jade Monkey last year in collaboration with music duo Climbs (Please refer to Tuch Macabre Blog Post). I also had the opportunity to play around a little with some of the photos on Photoshop so have included the final editorial versions here as well, I'm planning on creating some fashion illustration/collaged images too. Im loving the filtered look though....

A Quick 'Touched by Fire' Flyer...

Put together a quick flyer for a friend for her fringe show this year in Adelaide, a cabaret act called 'Touched By Fire', looks like it will be an awesome show....

Plantation Juice Co Logo Ideas

A few months ago I was asked by the owner of Big Table to play around with a few logo ideas regarding his new juice bar opening up in the central markets in Adelaide, the Plantation Juice Co, inspired by the beach shacks of tropical islands. Unfortunately none of which got selected, however I was happy to have an experiment and play with a few ideas and see where my limits were with graphic design and branding....

My first rough watercolour sketch...

A very rough idea in pencil drawing, I think this had to be my favourite at this point however I then discovered this was not the style they were after so I took a different route....

The first of the finalised hand drawn ideas using the preferred style...

The final hand drawn idea, and the one I would have selected to work further with....
